The front room downstairs, which we will use as a bedroom, has a lovely
wood floor and a great ceiling. Everything in between has to go.
Including the feathery wall paper, the plastic chair rail and the nasty
paneling. |

And go it did. Colin had a fun Saturday, wielding his crow bar and
making a mess. First to come off was the plastic chair rail, then
feathery wall paper covered paneling, followed by enough 19th century
plaster to fill 16 Co-op brown paper bags, the window trim, lots and
lots of lath, and finally the baseboards. |

Colin worked so hard on the wiring that he
didn't had time to wash his clothes or shave. He finished wiring (and had it approved by the City) and added
telephone and cable. He then filled in the gaps in the sheathing with foam
insulation, put up fiber glass batts, and covered everything with a vapor
barrier. We then hung the drywall. Thanks Dad for lending us
the drywall screwdriver. You can also see our new
windows (in the box). |

Alyssa watched the drywalling DVD Dad gave her for Christmas many times
and then did a perfect job mudding and taping all the drywall.
After mudding three of the walls, she primed them. The wall by the
closet needed some easy sand work as well. We also insulated the
ceiling with blown-in insulation. |

We replaced all three windows and we painted the walls Benjamin Moore
Simply White. Dad installed new baseboard heat (we removed the odd
electric baseboard heat). He also sanded and stained the floor. |
