We went to the village of Les Andelys to watch part of Stage 5 of le Tour de
France, Beauvais to Caen. The village has many half
timbered buildings and ruins up on a hill of a castle built by Richard the
Lion-Heart in 1196. |

We watched the caravan speed through the small village, blasting music, and
throwing fridge magnets, comic books, gummy bears, pretzels, hats, and other
advertising paraphernalia to the people gathered alongside the road. |

Björn Schröder (Milran) and Sammy Dumoulin (A2GR-Prevoyance) were leading at
Les Andelys and stayed off the front until 5 KM to go. Tom Boonen (Quick.Step),
in the maillot jaune, was staying close to the front of the peloton in Les
Andelys. He was just beaten to the stage win by Oscar Friere (Rabobank). |
