In June we moved to New Hampshire and so far, we really like
being able to spend so much time outdoors.
We've been keeping ourselves busy
going on walks, visiting country stores, going blueberry picking,
enjoying lobster on the Maine coast and participating in a chowder
competition. The first country store we went to was
Bill's Country
Store on Route 4, near Killington. We of course had to buy a jug of
Maple Syrup and look at all the Moose sweatshirts and Vermont cheeses. We also have visited the
'flagship country store' the Vermont Country Store -
the one that sends out the black and white catalogue selling everything from flannel shirts to old
fashioned kitchen gadgets.
The countryside is beautiful out here and
we've done some enjoyable walks. We've been walking a few times on the old
carriage roads in the
Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park near Woodstock, Vermont. The trail lead to a peaceful and small pond called the Pogue. The
trails are groomed for cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter -
can't wait to try those out. We've also done walks in the White
Mountains, in south eastern Vermont, around Lake Willoughby in the Northeast
Kingdom of Vermont and up Mt Cardigan.
