On our first day in France, we visited
Vaux le Vicomte, a chateau
east of Paris. Built in the mid 1600's by Nicolas Fouquet, the chateau
is surrounded by a moat and immense formal gardens. King Louis XIV
even thought it a bit too grand for anyone else but himself, and threw
Fouquet in jail for the rest of his life on trumped up charges after Fouquet
hosted an extravagant party. |
